A mystery has cropped up at the library. Miss Dea and the Cat in the Hat are on the case, but they need your help, boys and girls!
Welcome to May Mystery, a mystery-themed program at the Keyser-Mineral County Public Library. For this program, children, parents, and/or guardians can pick up “Evidence Bags” and “Case Files”, which are the program packets. The mystery is as follows:
The Cat in the Hat has discovered that four children’s book characters are missing from the library: Bad Kitty, Elephant & Piggie, Llama Llama, and Pete the Cat. In order to have a good summer Reading Program, they must be found and the villain discovered. Evidence bags and case files will be given out to our Detectives, who must report back to the Chief Detective Librarians of the Library Bureau of Investigation, located at the Keyser Library.
The Evidence Bags:
Inside the evidence bags will be an activity kit and a case file.
The Case Files:
Crime Scene Sketch
The case file contains:
A letter to the Detective
The missing poster for each week
A scavenger hunt
Three activity sheets (called files)
A coloring sheet (called a crime scene sketch)
Inside the front cover of the case file is a Detective Task List, which will be for librarian use when the case file is completed and brought back in each week.
Bonus: There will be goodies included in the evidence bags as well.
The May Mystery program is a four week program, as follows:
May 3rd – May 7th
May 10th – May 14th
Elephant & Piggie
May 17th – May 21st
May 24th – May 28th
Pete the Cat
At the end of every week when a case file is brought back in to a Chief Detective Librarian (look for the badge!), the Detective gets to fill out his/her name on a card, which will be put into a drawing for that week. There will also be a place for them to guess who the villain is. At the end of the program, four drawings will be held, and each winner will receive a $10 gift card (Burger King, Dairy Queen, Dominos, & Fox’s).
