Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the American Library Association and libraries unite in a national effort to ensure every child signs-up for their own library card.
It doesn’t cost anything to get your own library card. All we’d need is a photo ID for any adult card or a photo ID for the parent/guardian for a child’s library card.
Up to twenty-five items can be checked out on a card at a time, and this includes books and DVDs. Anyone under the age of 18 cannot check out DVDs. Books can be checked out for two weeks and can be renewed twice. There is a $0.10 fee for every day that a book is late. Only 4 DVDs can be checked out at a time for one week and cannot be renewed. There is a $0.25 fee for every day that a DVD is late.
